The Snowball Book Review

The Snowball Book Review

Before we continue with the Seeking Wisdom book review, I just would like to take a quick detour for those of you who are not too familiar with Warren Buffett.

Warren Buffett is one of the world’s most respected person. It’s not only because he is among the richest in the world and most successful investor, but because he is very grounded in integrity, honesty, transparency, respect, and the true-to-himself life that he lives.

To understand and appreciate Mr. Buffett, I recommend reading his biography The Snowball: Warren Buffett and the Business of Life.

Book Structure

In each chapter of this book and the book as whole, author Peter  does a good job of laying down the foundations for what is sub sequentially to follow along in the book. The theme of the sub title From Darwin To Munger is the the foundation of how this book is structured (primitive-to-evolution).

The beginning of the book lays down explanations of how our brains biologically create thoughts and how it is influenced or “hardwired” by the connections we make. Peter then gives examples and shares studies from Charles Darwin himself, along with others, on how our natural ways of thinking has derived from our early ancestor’s primitive brain’ and thought processes that they used through their primitive experiences. He then goes on to connect those natural thinking tendencies that we’ve  inherited and explains why we make the decisions that we make today.

Peter Bevelin does a good job of connecting the dots for us to enable us to understand what influences our thinking. Read more

Seeking Wisdom Book Review Part 1

The first book of the book set that I call “The Most Important Books On Investing”, is Seeking Wisdom: From Darwin To Munger by Peter Bevelin.

Majority of the people who attempt to invest in the stock market usually underperforms the S&P 500. The S&P 500 is an index of 500 of the largest companies (by capitalization) that have common stock and are listed on the New York Stock Exchange or the NASDAQ.

One of the reasons why most people do poorly when investing in the stock market compared to just investing in an index fund representing the S&P 500 is not because of the lack of information, but because of misjudgments. Read more

The Most Important Things: Wisdom, Investing, & An Almanack

For my first few book reviews that I will be reviewing will actually be from a set of books that I am currently reading. It’s not an actual book set per se, but I believe it was meaningfully meant to be read together.

I am passionately into investing (in the stock market and many other various investment vehicles), business, and the creation of financial wealth. And I’ve just recently became a passionate student and studier of the world’s most successful investor Warren Buffett.

I’ve read many books about investing in the stock markets. I’ve tried several methods and I’ve made some money, yet I’ve lost more. Overall I haven’t made money in the stock markets cumulatively. The reason being, I believe, is because I was trading stocks rather than investing in them and the businesses they represent.

Hello From Alan’s Book World!

Reading, as I’ve recently come to conclude, is a dying trait of today’s generation. There are so many benefits that reading provides. If you think about it, it is no wonder why the current generation is the way it is today.

Maybe it’s not the act of reading itself that I’m passionate about (although the act itself provides benefits that other activities can’), but the pursuit of knowledge is what I strive for.

Knowledge is potential power. And I enjoy acquiring that power through books whether I read them or listen to them in audio format.

In this little blog I will strive to share with you my views and reviews of the world of books that I have read and enjoyed so that you may choose to read them yourself and add to your potential power.

Keep connected as I’ll make the effort to connect the world, knowledge, and books!
